Intro to the research of the Bahamas

The Independence of the Bahamas             In 1492, an island called the Bahamas was found by a man named Christopher Columbus who never knew that this Island would grow to have over 350k people living there to this day. This island Is located in the Caribbean’s where many other Islands involved with the English were also located. Some of these would include Jamaica, Barbados, Dominica, etc. Most of the Countries in the Caribbean were just Islands just like the Bahamas. The Bahamas was conquered many, many times by different groups including English Puritans, pirates, and eventually the English. The English took control of The Bahamas for almost 325 years. Eventually, the Bahamas had grown tired of the British rule and eventually desired to become independent and free from English rule. Blog Post #5 - Self Assessment

 Since the start of the second semester, I have been keeping most of my work on time and making sure my grades are at least A's and B's. Especially for my blog posts, I make sure that they meet the requirements to get a good grade by looking at the Rubric. The Rubric tells me what I'm doing right and what I'm doing wrong. I feel like I do good when I'm looking at the Rubric. I just feel like the one thing that I do not do good with is sources. I provide the information from websites but I have trouble providing where exactly I got the information from. As I do put my best effort into my assignments and blog writings, there is one thing that stops me from being able to get my work done. Procrastination is one of my strongest weaknesses out. One minute I'll be working on a blog post the next thing I know I'm either watching youtube or playing a game on my computer. Sometimes I'll even say I'll come back to it and end up procrastinating that same day an

Getting more in depth with the Bahamas

      As I have spoken in my last two posts about the Bahamas, the Bahamas is probably my number one favorite to talk about out of all the other countries in the Caribbean. The population today has more than 330,000 people living in the Bahamas. 85% of those people are of African descent. Most people that live in the Bahamas speak English as English is their primary language. There is another language that is spoken mostly by immigrants that came from Haiti. This language is called French Creole. The Bahamas is located off the east coast of Florida which is located in the U.S. and the northeast of Cuba. The History of the Bahamas

 The Bahamas has existed since 300 AD but it was never really called the Bahamas, it was just a regular island that was discovered by people that came from the island which is now known as Cuba. At the time, Cuba did not have its name. Going further in time around 900 AD to 1500 AD, people know as Lucayans settled in the Bahamas. In 1492, Christopher Columbus had arrived at the island of San Salvador. Columbus had described the Bahamas as the islands of the shallow sea. By the time Columbus arrived in the Bahamas, about 40,000 were living in the Bahamas. However, soon after this, Lucayans died off due to diseases and bad conditions due to slavery.       In 1629, England had claimed the Bahamas as their own but there were no settlements yet. In 1649, English Puritans came to the Bahamas searching for religious freedom. They wanted somewhere to be able to practice their Puritan faith without the judgment of the king. The Caribbean has many countries that you could explore but if I could choose any country to explore, I would have to pick the Bahamas. The Bahamas is such a lovely and clean place to visit. The religion there is pretty, and the people there are also amicable. The food is very delicious and the atmosphere of the Bahamas is very relaxed.  As the Bahamas is an Island, their diet consists are mostly of fish which includes crab or shellfish, or even farm food like potatoes and rice. Sometimes they'll even serve fried chicken! The weather is also great especially during the winter as the temperature doesn't really drop below 60 degrees. They also hold a carnival called the Junkanoo Carnival which is apart of the Bahamian culture. This carnival begins every year at the end of April and ends at the start of May.        You can scuba dive and go snorkeling with the crystal clear water.   My name is Jordy Rodriguez and I welcome you to my Blog. I a(m) an 18 year old college student who attends Georgia Gwinnett College. I enjoy playing video games and also building them as a hobby. On a regular day, even if COVID-19 did not exist right now, I stay at home and play games because to be honest, I am not the social type. I do enjoy talking to people but I'm not the type to talk first.  I attended Brookwood High school and stayed there all four of my years then eventually graduated and attended Georgia Gwinnett College. I have two siblings, one old, one young, leaving me in the middle. My dad is from Mexico and my mom is from North Carolina. I grew up learning English and never learned Spanish but my dad speaks it fluently. I look forward to writing more blogs in the future!
